University Park Information

Located in what was once the Tamiami Airport, this census designated place called University Park is a community that rose up over the years, after the Florida International University was built here in the late 1960s, and after the city of Miami expanded westward.

The name of the community itself comes from a moniker that stuck through the years and was adopted as the official name of the neighborhood, since it did grow from what was once a mere university campus area.

This neighborhood is rather sizable, and is almost in a perfect square, stretching from SW 8th Street to Bird Road, and from SW 97th Avenue to the Ronald Reagan Turnpike. Coral Way dissects this community and the FIU campus is located at the northwestern part of the enclave.

Those who live here love the community because of how quiet and clean it is, as well as for its landscaping, the food, and how safe the enclave is.

The area is also considered a family friendly spot, and is an area that has quite a few places of interest to its name. Aside from the university, you can also find the Frost Art Museum, Miami-Dade County Fair and Exposition, FIU Stadium, and FIU Nature Preserve here.

As busy as this community is, what with numerous college students attending the university every year, it is no wonder that there are many interesting places for people to visit and explore here as well. Apart from the entertainment options and conveniences like supermarkets, retail outlets, and the requisite coffee shops, the neighborhood also has its go-to places for dining, and here are some of the top favorites:

University Park Real Estate

University Park has come a long way from its humble beginnings as a small community surrounding the main campus of a university to one that is considered an urban enclave that houses more than 25,000 people within its borders. The population here consists of a variety of people – from college students to young families to young professionals to retirees.

Majority of those living in and near the campus are, of course, the 20-somethings that attend the university, while the other areas have mostly families and some retirees living in the subdivisions and apartment complexes in the CDP. Most of the homes in the southern and eastern part of the neighborhood are occupied by the homeowners, but almost all of the residences located near the campus and within its grounds, are occupied by renters.

The residences here consist mostly of a combination of multi-unit housing and single family homes, with most of the multi-unit residences found near or within the grounds of the campus itself. Here are some of the housing options in and near the neighborhood:
