Homes For Sale in Wellington

Wellington is a village within the Palm Beach County located west of the West Palm Beach neighborhood. It is the most populous village of Florida and is among the most desirable places to live in the country.

The Neighborhood

Locally referred as the Village of Wellington, the neighborhood is bounded to the north by the Loxahatchee Groves and Royal Palm Beach, to the east by Greenacres and Lake Worth, to the south by the Strazzulla Tract and to the west by an unincorporated area of Palm Beach.

Before it was a residential haven, the village was originally known as the Flying Cow Ranch where the world’s largest strawberry patch used to be. The area used to be a swampland of the Palm Beach County before it was bought by Charles Oliver Wellington in the 1950s.

He planned to develop the area to serve as a sprawling bedroom community with several shops and restaurants. The development project began in 1972 and was completed in 1990. The village was then incorporated in 1995.

Today, Wellington is popular internationally as a village for equestrian sports.

Aside from equestrian events, Wellington is also known for its arts and culture. It boasts of a public library that serves as host to many seasonal activities like the Barett-Jackson Auto Auction, Top Gun Model Aircraft Show and several holiday processions.

The village is also home to the Perfect Vodka Amphitheater, a regular venue for many musical and film festivities.

Residents are served by the Palm Beach public transport system, Palm Tran. International travels are served by the Palm Beach International Airport.

Things To Do

Wellington has about 49 parks and ball fields that feature several amenities open for all its residents.

Homeowners can also enjoy free musicals, movie nights and comedy performances at the Wellington Amphitheater. The community is also a short distance away to West Palm Beach’s Kravis Center for the Performing Arts and Norton Museum of Art.

For some retail therapy, the village has the Old Wellington Mall and The Mall at Wellington Green. Other shopping centers include Wellington Marketplace and Wellington Plaza.

The waters of Palm Beach are only a half hour drive from the village. For a vibrant community, residents can also explore the South Beach neighborhood about 90 minutes away from Wellington.

Wellington is not known internationally as the center for equestrian sports for nothing. The village regularly hosts equestrian shows and polo matches. It serves as the host for the annual and longest running horse show, Winter Equestrian Festival every January to April.
