Homes For Sale in Lake Worth

Lake Worth is a city within the Palm Beach County. The city belongs to the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano beach Metropolitan Area.

The Neighborhood

The city is bounded by the neighborhoods of West Palm Beach to the north, Lantana to the south, and Lake Worth Corridor to the west. It has the waters of Atlantic Ocean to the east.

The first inhabitants of the city belong to the Native American tribe of Jaega. African American couple Fannie and Samuel James was the first to call the area as their home. They settled along the shores of the Lake Worth Lagoon and claimed the land under the Homestead Act. Their owned area originally covered about 187 acres. Over time, it has increased to include several areas, which they eventually sold to the Palm Beach Farms Company in 1910.

The development of the area was also a result of the railroad extension built by Henry Flagler. When the railroad extended from the West Palm Beach to Miami, property developers planned on creating a town site between the lake and the railroad.

Lake Worth received its township in June 1913. The town suffered much during the 1928 hurricane and redevelopment only started after the Second World War, with many pensioners moving into the city.

The South Florida real estate boom helped spawn a new breed of immigrants into the community. In recent years, the community is slowly and steadily rebuilding itself, with many establishments built to respond to the growing demand of the community.

The Lake Worth Tri-Rail station serves the residents of the city. Palm Tran also has routes within the community.

Things To Do

The city is home to a number of parks that residents can visit during their afternoon walks. Howard Park, Sunset Ridge Park, Northwest Park and Bryant Park are all worth visiting. For some weekend fun with the family, the Lake Worth Beach Park is a must-visit. Children can play on the sand while parents indulge in some water sports or some needed time under the sun.

The city also has a fishing pier where locals can fish for a minimal fee. The city also has a public swimming pool.

Golf enthusiasts can practice their swings at the Lake Worth Golf Course.

Along the city main avenue are a number of sidewalk cafes, night clubs and historic structures including the Lake Worth Playhouse and the Lake Worth Historic Museum.
