The tranquil neighborhood of Olympia Heights is located southwest of Miami. It is bounded by Southwest 40th Street to the north, Southwest 102nd Avenue to the west and Don Shula Expressway to the southwest.
The neighborhood used to be known for its horse racing facility, the Tropical Park Race Track built along the area where the Palmetto Expressway and Bird Road meet. The said race track was built through the efforts of Bill Dwyer and Frank Bruen and under the support of Samuel Bronfman, a Canadian distilling tycoon.
The race track became the home of Standardbred and Thoroughbred horses before it was closed in 1972.
At present, Olympia Heights is among the most livable cities in South Florida. It continues to attract home buyers for its strong sense of community, the number of local amenities that residents can utilize and the beautiful sunny weather that allow them to explore many of Miami’s offerings.
Olympia Heights is only a small CDP in Miami but the community is rife with local amenities that residents can enjoy. It is home to the Tropical Park, which features the Tropical Park Stadium that seats an audience of 32,800.
The stadium offers residents an athletics track and a grass field where various sports such as American football, soccer and rugby can be played. It serves as the home field of both the FC Miami City and Miami-Dade FC.
For those who love water activities, the park has two lakes: Tropical Lake and Lake Patricia. Other lakes in the neighborhood are Blue Lake, Bluebird Lake and Lake Catalina.
