Miami Lakes is a suburban community of Miami-Dade County. Previously a census-designated place, the town was incorporated to become the 31st municipality of the county in December 2000.

The Neighborhood

It was about 50 years ago when the first development in the area, which used to be a dairy farm, occurred. The Graham family enlisted the help of Architect Lester Collins to create a master plan that would later on become the foundation of an integrated community home to many housing developments, commercial establishments and mixed-used buildings.

Encompassing an area of 6.8 square miles, Miami Lakes occupies the northwest area of the Miami-Dade County along the Palmetto Expressway. It about 16 miles north of Downtown Miami and is bounded by the NW 138th Street to its South, NW 170th Street and Palmetto Expressway to its north, I-75 to its west and the NW 57th Avenue to its east.

Since its incorporation in 2000, the town of Miami Lakes has received several recognitions including the Tree City USA Designation for 10 consecutive years; Growth Award for eight consecutive years; Playful City USA Designation for 8 consecutive years and 100 Best Communities for Young People, which was awarded last 2012.

In 2010 and 2013, the town was also an All-America City finalist. The award giving body, National Civic League chooses ten communities each year in recognition of the civic accomplishments of municipalities.

For its great sense of community, Miami Lakes have grown into a beautiful neighborhood that has become one of South Florida’s most coveted addresses.

The town’s Community & Leisure Services Department makes sure that all of the 101 parks in the area are well taken care of.
