Lighthouse Point Information

Named after the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse standing at the nearby Hillsboro Beach town, Lighthouse Point is part of the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area.

It is bounded by Deerfield Beach to the north, Hillsboro Beach to the east, across the Intracoastal Waterway and Pompano Beach to the south and west.

The city is served by the Miami Herald and South Florida Sun Sentinel. Residents also receive monthly subscriptions of Lighthouse Point, a lifestyle magazine published by Susan and Richard Rosser.

Lighthouse Point used to be a mangrove swampland. In 1947, Juliet Becker built the first home in the community. After four years, R.E. Bateman acquired an acreage that they have developed into the first subdivision, Hillsboro Isles. From there, many commercial buildings and residential enclaves flourished in the area pushing the residents to vote for incorporation.

The city was incorporated on June 13, 1956. It has its own Fire Rescue Department, which also hosts a number of emergency life care support classes. Aside from responding in emergency cases, the department also has trained personnel who can assist in car seat installations.

Safety and protection is provided for by the Lighthouse Point Police Department. They are also responsible for keeping the city orderly.

The quaint town of Lighthouse Point is home to many wealthy individuals who love the community’s laidback atmosphere. Shaded areas, tree-lined trees and waterfront homes attract home buyers in this self-sufficient and prosperous community.
