The neighborhood, before its incorporation in 1948, was a former rural area used mainly as a place to raise horses. It was only in 1968 that major developments opened the community to many establishments and business particularly along the Okeechobee Road.
Since it has access to major thoroughfares, residents of Hialeah Gardens can readily go out and explore other Miami neighborhoods including Downtown Miami, which is only about 27 minutes away.
American Airlines Arena and Bayfront Park Amphitheatre are only half an hour drive, while Miami International Airport is only 25 minutes via the US 27 N.
The vibrant neighborhood of Miami Beach and its many entertainment centers and restaurants are 35 minutes from the residents of Hialeah Gardens.
The community is home to a number of parks including Joe Sherron Park, Golden Eagle Park, Linear Park and Westland Gardens Park. Due to its strategic location, residents have great access to other entertainment venues of Hialeah and its neighboring cities.
