Lakes by the Bay Information
Lakes by the Bay was named as such due to location along the Tricolor Heron Lake along the Biscayne Bay.
It used to be a separate city from Cutler Bay. It was only in 2005 that the community became part of Cutler Bay.
The neighborhood was among those tremendously affected by Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Due to the extent of the damage, the community started rebuilding their homes using concrete walls. Today, many of the homes underwent extensive renovations and rebuilding.
It is bordered by the Old Cutler Road, 87th Avenue, SW 232nd Street and Tenalla Ocean Farms.
The neighborhood has lush greenery such as Saga Lake Park and Lakes by the Bay Park.
The 45-acre Lakes by the Bay Park is a multi-use park that has four batting cages, three lighted baseball and softball fields, and two lighted soccer and lacrosse fields. It also has an exercise path, covered playgrounds and paved parking that can accommodate up to 100 cars.
The park is planning to include a kayak/canoe launch area, picnic grounds and a community center. Today, it serves as the training ground of the Cutler Ridge Soccer Club, Perrine Baseball and Softball Association and Palmetto Raiders Youth Development Club.
It has various points of interest within 20 to 35 minutes including Mangrove Preserve, Homestead-Miami Speedway, Homestead Reserve Base and Zoo Miami.
For some island exploring, residents can also head out to the uninhabited community of Islandia.
