Hollywood is an incorporated city within the Broward County. Since it was founded, Hollywood attracted hundreds of home buyers making it one of Florida’s largest cities.

The Neighborhood

Hollywood was founded in 1925 by Joseph W. Young who envisioned the community will become a motion picture colony on the east coast and named the city after the famous Hollywood in California. It was originally named Hollywood by the Sea to distinguish it from Young’s Hollywood in the Hills located in New York. Young dreamt of developing the community by having golf courses, man-made lakes, country clubs and a luxurious beach hotel but Hollywood was severely affected by the 1926 Miami Hurricane.

Along Hollywood Boulevard, Young’s legacy remains through his Mediterranean-inspired mansion built in 1921.

The city had its peak from the 1950s until the 1960s as throngs of home buyers acquired properties in the area. It belongs to the Miami metropolitan area. It is located directly on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean and is bounded by Dania Beach and Fort Lauderdale to the north, Hallandale Beach to the south, Pembroke Pines to the west and Davie and Cooper City to the northwest.

The neighborhood is under the protection of the Hollywood Police Department located at 3250 Hollywood Boulevard.

The residents commute via the Broward County Transit that have routes along the US 1. Along Sheridan Street and Hollywood are the Tri-Rail Stations. Residents are also a couple of minutes away from the Fort-Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

While Miami is known for its beaches and irresistible shopping destinations, Hollywood is home to a number of historic places such as the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, Hollywood Garden Club, Hollywood Women’s Club, Hammerstein House, Hollywood Printing and Publishing Plant, Flora Apartment Building, Hollywood Beach Hotel, Great Southern Hotel and Hollywood Playhouse.

Things To Do

Residents of Hollywood have ample things to do while in the community. They have 60 parks to explore, seven golf courses to visit and a 2.5 mile long Hollywood Beach Broadwalk dotted with restaurants and bars.

Along the broadwalk, there are countless shops such as ice cream parlors, souvenir shops and a farmer’s market. Locals also enjoy the lively scenery as they walk, jog or bike along the path. At night, a number of restaurants offer their guests some music and dance shows.

Young Circle is another favorite among the locals. Mondays mean food truck party as dozens of local food truck that serve up a variety of gustatory offerings line up the area.
