Coral Springs is a Broward County city located 20 miles northwest of Fort Lauderdale. It is a master-planned community known for its strict zoning and real estate restrictions that help maintain its idyllic character.

The Neighborhood

Officially chartered in 1963, Coral Springs was a community developed by WCI Communities. It used to bear the name, Coral Ridge Properties. In the following decades until the 1990s, the city grew rapidly – adding as much as 35,000 residents every 10 years.

To maintain the distinctive appeal of the neighborhood, Coral Springs adapts strict building codes making it one of the most livable cities in Florida.

The family-friendly neighborhood of Coral Springs used to be a marshy land owner by Henry Lyons who used the area as a bean farm. After his death, his descendants raised cattle in the area.

It was after the World War II, during the South Florida real estate boom that Coral Ridge Properties decided to buy portions of the land to convert into a real estate development. Since then, Coral Springs evolved to become of the best cities to live in the US.

Coral Springs has received numerous awards including “10th Safest City in the US” in 2007, America’s Promise “100 Best Cities for Young People” in 2008, Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award in 2007, and the “44th Best Place to Live in the US” in 2010.

The neighborhood is bounded by Parkland to the north, Coconut Creek to the east, North Lauderdale and Tamarac to the south and The Everglades to the west.

It follows a commissioner-manager government and is home to the Coral Springs Medical Center.
